Coleman Hawk (Band) VIEW PROFILE

Cecil Coleman Hawk was born on February 12th, 1935, in Nicholsville, Alabama. He passed from this earth into the arms of our Lord on November 18th in Jacksonville, Florida. From the very beginning, he had a curious nature and wanted to learn about everything around him. He truly cared about those in his life and was just that person you wanted to know, love, and be around.

He attended college at Auburn University, where he met his future bride, Anne, and obtained his bachelor’s degree in both mathematics and music. His appetite for learning and discovery compelled him to become proficient in multiple disciplines. After college, he started his first career as a high-school band director in Green Cove Springs and later at Wolfson High School in Jacksonville. During this same time, he was also a church choir director at Ortega Methodist Church.

In the 1970s, he became interested in computer programming and transitioned to a new career in this field at Prudential Insurance company. Over the course of his career, he held multiple roles in information management as well as software development.

His love of music and singing never wavered, and he applied that talent to singing in the choir at the church he loved and attended, South Jacksonville Presbyterian. He also performed in musicals at Theatre Jacksonville and participated in the Heritage Singers of Jacksonville. In addition to music, he loved to tell and write short stories and was a frequent editorial contributor to the Florida Times-Union.

His sense of humor, giving spirit, and caring nature were evident in all aspects of his life. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend cherished and loved by all who knew him.

He is predeceased by his parents Robbin Alexis and Laura Bates Hawk, as well as by his sister Mary Frances Hawk, and brothers James and Trevor Hawk. He is survived by his wife Margaret Anne Hawk, son David Coleman (Linda) Hawk, daughter Robin Anne (Mark) Jamison, his brother Alvin Hawk, his nieces and nephew, his four loving grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 23rd at 10 a.m. at the burial site located at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Cemetery at 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida 32207.
